The set of Peaky Blinders has paid tribute to Helen McCrory, who passed away from cancer on Friday. After filming shut down following the announcement of her death, they are back to work today and saluting Helen.

Damian Lewis also paid tribute to his wife with an essay for the Sunday Times.

• While many were praising Helen McCrory the actor, he wanted to praise Helen the person.
• She was innately kind, overtipped, and consciously spread happiness. Even on her deathbed, when talking to her carers and nurses, she repeatedly said, “thank you so much” in her half delirious state.
• Damian recalls a potentially awkward conversation with Lauren Bacall during Helen's run of Uncle Vanya, where Bacall confused her with costar Emily Watson. Helen responded by calling her Ms Hepburn, which cracked Bacall up.
• She had prepared their children for her death, saying, “Don’t be sad, because even though I’m about to snuff it, I’ve lived the life I wanted to.” She wanted the family to live and be happy, telling them, “I want Daddy to have girlfriends, lots of them, you must all love again, love isn’t possessive, but you know, Damian, try at least to get though the funeral without snogging someone.”
  
• He ends the essay by calling Helen a meteor in their lives, and quoting the Maya Angelou poem Phenomenal Woman.
