Back in 2011, someone had the great idea of having James Franco and Anne Hathaway host the Oscars in a bid to "appeal to the younger generation". Anne, being the professional that she is, made herself "readily available" for the writers and had no problem collaborating with them. James on the other hand was difficult to get in touch with as he always “seemed to be on a flight, and it was very hard for me to get a hold of him. That was a red flag…[it seemed that he] wanted to play it as a buddy-cop movie with two opposite characters,” according to director Jordan Rubin and and unnamed writer.

Franco was also rude to Hathaway. According to writer David Wild, Franco snapped at her during a rehearsal when she suggested he'd try something a bit different, saying "don’t tell me how to be funny.” Wild also recalled a moment where he believed the two were finally becoming friendly. “I thought, ‘Oh boy, they’ve finally broken through and he’s looking at her!’”, but it turned out James was smiling at Anne's stand-in while Anne herself was in her dressing room.

The actors have both spoken about their hosting duty, Anne saying saying she "had a blast" and didn't regret it, while James - who seemingly had wanted to improvise the whole thing - said "we got a lot of s*** for it. I probably got more than she did, but she got a lot.”

I guess it's hardly news that he was an asshole but let's use this post as an excuse to shit on Franco.
