Omg i needed a place to talk about this

I follow a couple weight loss subreddits and in one of them the other day the op was ranting about how now that shes lost weight she notices "how everyone is fat" and she feels sad for fat people bc theyre "forced to be that way and told its acceptable" and how she "just wanted to grab them by the shoulders and shake them, sit them down and teach them they dont have to be that way and they can learn to love themselves".

It got a lot of upvotes but i just thought it was so disgusting, patronizing and counterproductive. Like if you acknowledge that increased weight is more a function of insidious economic policy then why do you feel like other people should take it upon themselves to up-end their lifestyles to lose weight. It's just awful how ingrained it is for people to not mind their own business when it comes to weight.

That fucking sucks. I started gaining weight in my 20's, and doctors brushed it off as "you're getting older" or "you just started the pill, it's normal".

Gained and gained in spite of working out and trying to eat right. I tried getting a nutritionist but my insurance wouldn't cover it because I was too healthy (even though I was fat, how crazy) and the cheapest one I could find charged $300 just for a single day's meal plan.

It took years for me to love myself in spite of how heavy I had gotten. Finally I was diagnosed with cervical cancer and had to get a hysterectomy. My new gyno was shocked because I'm so young and cancer doesn't run in my family ( ... )

I don’t mean to invade your privacy but what did you get treated with for your PCOS that worked? My story is similar to yours but I didn’t notice any real success with the treatments

It's okay! I take 100mg of Spironolactone a day. I also cut way back on carbs and refined sugars, though I don't trust a fully keto diet. It doesn't seem balanced. I'll still eat fruit and occasionally whole wheat breads and pastas. I avoid refined sugar as much as possible, though.

I also make a conscious effort to work out at least 1/2 hour a day, even if it's just a hilly walk or yoga in front of my laptop or something. But the important thing is, I don't hate myself if I don't have the willpower to do it that day.

Same question as previous poster if you care to share. Still having trouble with losing weight with PCOS, even while eating well and working out

I wasn't eating that much of it to begin with, but it's crazy how much of it is in food you don't even think about. Making some minor adjustments helped. Also I noticed I had more energy after replacing sugary food with other food, though I don't know if that was cutting out sugar or because of the Spironolactone.

Uuuuuuugh. I've talked about my weight loss a lot on here. (I honestly feel a little like a broken record but we're in a pandemic and that has been really the only change I've had in the last year.) I've lost quite a bit of weight, but I also know how long it took me to actually lose the weight. How many times I had to "try" to do it before I have actually become successful ( ... )

That's definitely the disordered kind of thinking I had when I struggled with an ED years ago

Ugh...I've been up/down my whole life. I don't know about others with severe anxiety/depression/stress disorders but it fucks you up.

You'll get in the "I'm gonna get in shape" and do everything right...and then it all falls apart in a few weeks/months (if that long). Then the cycle continues. I'm also vegan and can attest to that doesn't automatically make you healthy. (stress eating Oreos comes to mind).

My fav line...and I get it all the time "you would be prettier (or you're pretty it's sad you're overweight) if you lost weight"

It's just self-loathing. They hated themselves when they were fat, and now they want to believe they're a different person because they lost weight, but they aren't so they have to take it out on fat people.

I don't really agree that it's mostly because of economic policy but regardless of cause people should mind their own business wrt weight.
