The CDC and FDA are recommending a pause in the use of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine out of an "abundance of caution" while an investigation is conducted into six reported cases of a rare and severe type of blood clot.https://t.co/sKaN16AIP9 - NPR (@NPR) April 13, 2021
It's been wild watching which age groups freak out about these kind of pauses/additional data coming out. Older GenZ/boomers really are taking in so much misinformation and have a serious lack of media literacy rn not to say your dad falls into that category, just a general observation
I feel like in certain circumstances the concern is warranted.
I have a horrendous family history of blood clots (4 deaths & 3 other family members who have needed surgeries for them). It’s enough to keep me from being on estrogen BC and honestly, even though it’s only 6 cases, I likely wouldn’t choose J&J after learning this.
I’ve already received the Pfizer vaccine but I’m glad they’re being transparent about this for the future.
That said, if I didn’t have my personal background, I wouldn’t think twice. But it’s enough for me to exercise extra caution going forward.
I have a similar family history with bloodclots - you can be tested for something called Factor V Leiden with a simple blood test - at least then you will know if you are more prone to clots and be able to take precautions.
Have you and anyone in your family been tested for blood disorders? I ask bc they're hereditary and I only found out I had one after I got a bunch of blood clots in my arm last year out of nowhere and now have to take blood thinners for the rest of my life. You should look into it if you haven't and maybe start taking an low dose of aspirin every day if you can handle it.
I'm 41 YO and on BC pills, I had an appt for Thursday (this week) for the J & J- but the clinic has switched to Moderna with this news. I'm willing to take whatever at this point.
There have been, I think 8 cases of women between 18-48 who had blood clotting issues 3 weeks or so after the virus. They're not certain of anything but are taking an "excess of caution". I literally saw this on the news an hour ago so it's fresh in my mind. It's all treatable and the occurances are so low that it's really only something the anti-vaxxers will use on their social media than a real problem for most of us.

If I knew then what I know now, I’d still get the vaccine. The odds of getting a blood clot are relatively low.
