The dementia thing... yikes. I haven’t watched this season/the finale yet, but all I can say is dementia is really freaking scary and I’ve more than my fair share of it from friend’s parents to both my grandmothers. And it comes on so suddenly to... or at least in the cases closest to me.

This. But I do think even bringing up dementia is huge because a lot of ppl with it don’t change over night. It’s small things you don’t notice or things you think is just getting older. I had one Mawmaw who was normal, save for a sudden... nervousness about getting out of bed (afraid she’d fall), and it wasn’t until after a hospital stay for Pneumonia when it really hit and she went from being my Mawmaw to something unrecognizable. She barely recognized it and ended up passing away from pneumonia two weeks after an official diagnosis. But if people knew the signs... and potential causes...

my friend is not even 30 and she had been an alcoholic since the age of 8 iirc. she now has permanent brain damage and sometimes her memory seems off, but she doesn't seem to notice. i think a lot about the possibility of her getting dementia earlier than expected.

i'm sorry. :/ it's hard. for my friend she just couldn't give up alcohol because it "helped" her sleep and she refused to try medication or natural remedies for it (she lives in the US and said it would bankrupt her to try getting sleep meds and alcohol is cheaper). she ended up in the hospital last year and that's when she learned the alcohol left her with permanent brain damage.

she's sober now, but... yeah. her memory is not quite there.

this is my biggest fear about drinking. I have friends who like to go out and such and sometimes I realize just how much we're drinking. As a result, I'm back to stopping again. I want to start moving to drinking only every now and then with them.

i was never much of a drinker myself. i prefer a bit of wine and that's about it. i am someone who likes to stay in control/conscious, even when smoking some weed so i limit my intake. my parents were not drinkers, but i had a relative who died when i was really small from liver failure due to alcoholism. that alone made me scared of binge drinking, etc.
