People who can’t/don’t want to read... I hate it but I get it

I guess they're more popular, right now in my city there's 11 dubbed showings of Godzilla vs Kong and just one in English, and that's usually the case for all Hollywood movies, sucks for me.

Are they actually popular or is just like there’s no other options and people are too lazy to complain? I just can’t see anyone actually enjoying the experience of a dubbed movie.

Yeah, people just prefer not to read because is not just movies, a lot of shows in cable are dubbed too, years ago the main sale was having TV shows in the original language but things changed, and not many people are fluent in English so it kinda makes sense.

Probably for people who are blind, can't read well due to dyslexia or other reasons, short attention span, etc

I mean I'm not a fan of dubbed myself but some people have dyslexia and/or are just bad at reading in general. I've known people in Brazil who prefer dubs because they're slow readers due to lack of education.

Not to mention Brazil's dubs are very good. I prefer watching things in the original language but when it comes to dubbing, Brazilian professionals put most voice actors to shame.

True. Like I hate American anime dubs but I LOVE Brazilian anime dubs. The YYH Brazilian dub? Actually iconic. They actually make it sound like the characters are having a conversation instead of just reading the lines from the script.

My Colombian 71 year old mother has trouble reading the subtitles so most movies she watches are dubbed. I hate it but I’m happy she has that option instead of being bored during the pandemic.

Accessibility.

Because not everybody can watch a movie in another language. It's not just for the people who can't read or would have a hard time reading subtitles. If you just want to see a movie and relax and sit back that is much easier when you easily understand the dialog.

And when studios invest the time and money to let good dubbing studios and voice actors to their job, dubs can be fantastic.

I’m gonna need examples of some fantastic dubbing jobs because I’ve never seen one that isn’t incredibly distracting and takes me completely out of it.

I do get that’s it’s better for accessibility, but that’s not the majority of people.
