Can the scene be Rachel realising her and Ross are awful together and getting on the plane to go take her dream job and live a fab life? Thanks!

I always feel like people wanting her to take their kid an ocean away a weird stance, but alas. Maybe that's just me.

I know in the fiction of the show it was like 'oh we'll work it out, the job will be accommodating' but you're fucking taking the kid to France. It's not even like he can up and go with her because his son is in New York.

I know he tells her to go, but I always thought that was an awful position to put him in for a job she was taking in a country where she didn't even speak the language.

What are the odds of her getting the job when she doesn’t speak French?

I dunno, I thought they were gonna fluff her knowing French and then they had that bit in the airport where someone talked to her in an accent and she was like 'oh and I thought I wouldn't remember any of my French!'

Never worked in France but it's not uncommon for people to land executive jobs in other countries, even though they don't speak the language. My new boss doesn't speak polish.

especially considering how of all of ross' flaws, being a shitty father definitely isn't one.

Yeah, I get most people were like ~she was going to be her fabulous self~ but when you have kids that's...kind of something you have to think about?

France is far, but it would also be very unhealthy for Emma to grow up watching her parents stay together/break up every couple of months and have a VERY unhealthy relationship. They would both make enough money to where traveling wouldn't be an issue.

Let's just say in my storyline she makes the decision to go to France, but realises that she doesn't speak French and Emma should be near her father and the company is amazing and relocates her back to NYC, but her and Ross realise they're better as friends and coparents.

Ooh or she says the "She didn't get on the plane" and he goes to kiss her and she's like, "I love you and Emma needs both of her parents, but I also know we're better as friends and the company said I could have the same position in NYC."

Written better, but you get the gist, lol.

I'm not saying they needed to be together, but I thought her making that decision knowing he had a son in the US and likely wouldn't be able to see their daughter was a pretty shitty thing to do. It's incredibly naive to say 'oh they had the money they could take flights'. He still had a job and a son in the US, it's not like you can 'pop over to Paris' even if you have money. It's not like it's an easy trip at the best of times.

People really romanticise what Rachael did taking that job and I never get why when put into the context of the show. She was gonna take a high profile job in France and I assume have her child in care because she didn't have a support network there while he couldn't see his child because they were a - what - 8 hour flight away in day care with only her mother around her.

2/3 of my comment were endings where she ended up staying in NYC.

You're being a little rude and calling me naive when I never said anyone can just "pop over to Paris". That was one sentence in a long comment where I agreed with you that Emma shouldn't be separated from her father, but in a great ending Rachel could also keep a job she really loved.

Right but your initial response was this:

Can the scene be Rachel realising her and Ross are awful together and getting on the plane to go take her dream job and live a fab life? Thanks!

And it's not rudeness, imo it is naive for both the show and people like you who think that having the ability to do it makes it easy. These aren't the Kardashians who can work anywhere, isn't he a lecturer? That would further limit when he could see her and likely cut into his having Ben during the holidays.

It was just naive all around and if he had told her not to go (for perfectly valid reasons) to fans like you he would have been an asshole for not letting her live her ~fabulous life.

The only thing that bugged me was that there was no discussion about what it would mean for the child. The show totally glossed over that aspect and Rachel never talked to Ross about it, just said the company understands their situation.

They weren't motivated by what would be good for Emma either. Ross wanted Rachel to stay because he loved her (and tried to sabotage her chances behind her back) and she decided to get off the plane because of him, not because she decided it was better for Emma.
