Madripoor is in Indonesia, with an urban landscape copied from an East Asian metropolis, and the needle drop they used to introduce the city is a Filipino rap song about weed. Loving the blunt orientalism.

I haven't watched yet, but I saw someone say there weren't really any Asian people in the scenes in Madripoor. Is that true?

There were barely any Asian people featured. It looked like it was filmed in the US with some 'Asian' street art. Indonesia is such a vibrant place - to see that missing from Mandripoor was disappointing.

I recognized the song immediately because it's very popular here, kind of the sound popular in urban Manila rn. It was also targeted by the government because of its subject matter lmao
