Omg thank goodness they weren't hurt. That's a legit nightmare of mine, that someone breaks in while I'm home. I'd like to think I'd be okay enough to think of my feet and defend myself but I'm scared I'd freeze up.

It’s crazy like I know for a fact that I would go into fight mode lol. One time I lived in a house that had a rickety door leading into the garage. The actual garage door was broken at the time off it’s hinges so sometimes wind would get in and push the rickety door open a little (I know this all sounds very unsafe and it was but the landlord took forever to ever get anything fixed! We barricaded the open spot on the garage door but wind would still get in sometimes) One night I was chilling on the couch and the rickety door starts to open and I deadass thought someone was waltzing into my house and I immediately jumped up, grabbed a knife, yelled “WHO THE FUCK IS THERE??”, ran to the door, and opened it to an empty garage. My dog who barks at everything never even flinched so I should’ve known it was nothing but still. I was ready to STAB someone and I am proud of myself for that lmfao.

10 years ago when I was living with my parents I came home from work a bit early and when I got inside *EVERY* single cabinet/drawer was open and I was like "oh I guess my mom was looking for something before work??" then i went upstairs to my room and EVERY SINGLE DRAWER was ransacked and I was like OH FUCK and ran outside to call the police. My cat (who always runs out the door) was literally only like 5 feet away from our back sliding glass door so I seriously think I walked in on them and they heard me and bounced. It was so scary, luckily they were caught a month or so later b/c they were doing this to a lot of houses in our neighborhood.

Someone broke into my house while I was home alone when I was 17. If it hadn’t been for the sound of the alarm scaring the perp away I have no idea what would have happened to me. I completely froze up in that situation.

it's almost impossible to tell until you've been in that situation. I was almost mugged with a friend once, she talked our way out of it (we were also almost at her house so she said someone was watching them from the house and would call the cops), anyway if I was alone I think I would have frozen up even though I always told myself I'd be a kick ass bitch in a moment like that lol.
I mean, it prepared me for sure so I think next time I'll have a better idea of what I'd do but that first time.. yeah idk, I wasn't even that scared but I was just staring blankly lmao

That's amazing she was able to do that.

A guy followed me home one night. He crept up behind me and grabbed my ass. I turned around and immediately screamed "WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING?" and he looked shocked and said "uuhh" (grown ass man btw) and I continued "GET THE FUCK OUT OF HERE!" and he ran off. I was about to turn around to walk the last few steps to my apartment when I turned back around and finished it off with "YOUR MOTHER WOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOU!" lmao

But I wish I had maced him, I had it on me. So in that scenario I went with fight but IDK if that would change if it was a home invasion.

yeah I was def thankful in that moment, I guess because she sort of took the reigns I wasn't forced to find a way out of it myself. I would have honestly just went the long way around to get to her/my place though (we saw these sketchy guys in advanced, by this little gate/walkway that leads to a neighborhood basically where my friend lived) and she was just like "no that's too long, we're fine" (in hindsight, that was pretty dumb I knew we should have went around)
anyway.

I'm happy you were able to get him to fuck off. but that's still scary. it sounds like you'd prob have that same response even in your home too (which is good) doesn't hurt that you'd prob have stuff around to use as a weopan lol

I don’t know if I would fight back, especially since the other person may be armed and shoot me. I keep the baseball bat someone gave me as a baby shower gift 20 years ago by my front door and have grabbed it many times when I’ve heard something sketchy outside.

It’s hard because I don’t trust the police, either, and won’t even pull over for them unless I’m in a well-lit spot with other people around. I once didn’t stop until I reached my parents’ house and had my dad wait outside because the cop was following me but hadn’t turned their lights on. Too many bad or fake cops to take that risk.
