Keep it. Call me bitter, but why do LGBT leads always have to be white? Why can’t we have two POC LGBT leads? It’s 2021, this was cute in Love Simon but society has progressed.

TBF to this day, most heterosexual romcoms have at least a white lead. It's only recently that we have 2 POC leads being together (Someone Great, Namaste Wahala, Crazy Rich Asians), saved for Black romcoms (but they tend to have mixed women as leads, but that's another issue).

I like that you added Namaste Wahala to the list.

While I agree, Holiday movies just got their first gay couples last year. So, I'm hopeful that soon it will happen?

Yeah, IA. The crumbs are not cutting it anymore. And I'm a white gay lol. I don't need anymore depictions of a white gay to make me feel ~seen. I'm good.

Also, reading the rest of the cast they've announced is like--"Hey everyone! We cast a black man as a possible love interest!" Meanwhile, every supporting actor in a major role is white. Yay, diversity?

Thank you! I appreciate this. I obviously don’t dislike white people but there’s already such a bias toward white cis men on gay dating apps and I’m tired of it tbh.

Because their target demographic won't watch it.
That's why there's only a handful of "Moonlight" fanfics out there, for example.
They want the majority White audience who will only accept rom-coms that have one or more White leads. They're no different than any other Hollywood studio in that respect. And their are films with two LGBT leads and even majority of the casts. Some of them are on Netflix. But they didn't get nearly this kind of marketing push. Maybe because they weren't Netflix productions but bought from outside creators? I don't know. But they're there. All three or four of them, LOL.

Not all these replies, except one sensible one, trying to pacify you that that racism is okay.

I don't give a fuck if racist hetero hollywood has barely started to "take risk", we can and should still complain about the lack of representation everywhere.

Shit, have the hetero life time and hallmark films had an Asian male or female romantic lead? Even more than one?

They'll just festishize the Blacks and Browns for a few years and then allow other colors to join in these LGBT romcom romps.

Asian rep isn’t great but Katrina Law has done some Hallmark films, Tiya Sicar has done some Lifetime films and A Sugar & Spice Christmas was on Lifetime last year as part of its diversity push and that had a majority Asian cast including the two leads.

Oh and Dean Cain.

Nobody is saying that "racism is okay". We're just being logical about this because Hollywood is an industry that has a long history of erasing POC from movies since the beginning of cinema. It's not something that can be fixed overnight. The fact of the matter is, there actually has been some progress when it comes to LGBT films having POC leads, like Monsoon recently. As well as Pose, Moonlight, Generation, Spiral, etc. So you can be impatient all you want, but things are finally happening.

Are...are you even listening? I never said to "tap dance for nickles". I'm saying that you need to acknowledge the PROGRESS that we're making instead of expecting it all to be fixed overnight.

But there have been LGBT leads who are POC. Like Monsoon, which came out recently. But that was ignored, and every time there's an LGBT movie with a white lead, people like you act like Pose or Moonlight never existed.
