Sources tell Deadline that HBO has acquired rights to the John Grisham’s A Time For Mercy, the sequel to Grisham’s classic novel ‘A Time To Kill’.

Matthew McConaughey is in final negotiations to reprise the role of defense attorney Jake Brigance. McConaughey starred in the original film over 25 years ago.

Lorenzo di Bonaventura, who worked for WB back in the 90’s, will be a producer. The limited series is set for six to eight episodes.

HBO/WBTV did not respond to Deadline’s request for comment.
