I get it. If I had a song I wrote when I was 15 I had to perform every night for the rest of my career, I’d probably get real sick of it too. I went to a Tamora Pierce book signing a million years ago and she said she really regretted the Jonathan/Alanna relationship - she said it was coercive af bc of the power imbalance, she wrote it in the 80s and really wished she could retcon it lol

Adult me can absolutely recognize the truth of that and that they weren't a healthy long-term match, but the 13-year-old in me will never get over the betrayal of them breaking up. And my second choice would have been for Alanna to be on her own just wrecking shit. George felt so out of left field for me. Plus for some reason in my head I had it that George was way older than Alanna, so that always squicked me out too.
