I saw her nom and laughed! I mean, it's not a surprise - the Academy always has to throw in at least one totally bizarre nom, I'm just glad it wasn't Meryl Streep for The Prom.

I like Glenn Close, I just wish she'd pick better projects.

I like Glenn as well, but I can't imagine that a ton of hot scripts are crossing her desk for a 73 year old woman in Hollywood.

I think Glenn always had one single problem. Meryl Streep. Same age, same range, kinda lookalikey. Only that Meryl was there a minute before Glenn and is a tad more attractive in a non-threatening way. They are friends, but that must have been quite challenging for Glenn, always getting the roles that Meryl didn't want.

Yeah, that makes a lot of sense. I feel like most actors know the handful of people that they're always in competition with but when you're a woman of that era it's hard when you basically have a much more successful and celebrated double.

I do think Meryl was gorgeous in her 20s/30s, though. But she's also aged incredibly.

You're so right. Not that my opinion means anything, but I've always thought Glenn Close was a better actress than Meryl Streep. There's no denying Streep's amazing performance in Sophie's Choice and how adept she is at dialects, but she kind of relies on the same choices in roles that call for specific emotions or characterizations. I enjoyed Let Them All Talk more than I probably should have, but I saw so much of Miranda Priestly and even some of Sister Aloysius Beauvier in her portrayal of Alice ( ... )
