You’re the only person in the 30-odd comments on the first page who is seeing sarcasm in these comments. Maybe we’re all dense or...her sarcasm isn’t very effective? Or maybe she is in fact serious?

i know i am, which is why i made my comment. ive been noticing this trend forreal the last couple of years, like somwewhere down the line without an actual "lol" or emoji at the end of a sentenc we just cant read any layers into a statement. used to be something deliciously dry as this would be a fun interview and endlessly memefied. now its just sad. but no im sure rosamund pike buries golden globes in her yard that sounds plausible.

I...guess? I’m not convinced that people have lost their ability to detect sarcasm, though I see what you’re saying about reliance on emojis etc. I think maybe people don’t blink/look twice at strange statements because the world is so strange and because celebrities specifically are constantly chasing weird.

i agree that the world is more openly crazy in the media, but celebs have been nuts for so long and we still had occam's razor in mind, which is what i guess i really have seen get slowly chipped away for whatever reasons. there was a time where most people would look at this statement and go "lol how british" not "this seems perfectly genuine". i mean it doesnt matter, im bound to be getting too old for the interweb anyway.

For me, it's the opposite. I've gotten too old and seen too much to not just accept someone is that weird or dying on that molehill. Especially after this last year where I'll never again underestimate how outraged people actually are over being inconvenienced, or how desperate perfectly safe people are about insisting x marginalized person is discriminating against them.
