I’ve had so much distaste towards Alba for the whole “don’t call me latina” and if that started from P*rezH*lt*n the shame on me. I still thinks she’s a latina for profit now that she has to sell her mommy products

Idk I didn’t care for or follow Perez, so I’m not sure if it started for him, but I do remember her saying gross shit about Mexicans in a magazine ( ... )

😡 thanks! For the quotes the mexican men spreading their seeds and women pop them out??? Finally cut loose? What a POS! I knew that she was latina only per pay for her basic ass mommy products

Yeah, the one about Mexicans spreading their seed is particularly gross. Not only so you want to deny your heritage and say that you’re American and not Latin, you have to shit on your entire ethnicity while you’re at it. I’ve never forgotten these quotes or that interview so I have never liked her lol

Now, as a third-generation American, I feel as if I have finally cut loose."

WELL, WHEW, BITCH, THAT WAS CLOSE! YOU'RE SAVED!!!

now i know why i don't like her. i always thought it was bc of rumors i believed about her being nasty to jensen ackles on set (i was a big spn fan, sue me), and hated that i didn't like her over that bc sexist asshole men likely perpetuated that shit.

i remember reading that. it was still a ridiculous reason to dislike a woman, but i guess i didn't completely realize back then just how skewed everything was toward making men look great and women look terrible.

and then to find out the real demon on that set was michael weatherly. now that i'm so much older, i see how young she really was back then (just a baby, honestly) and i feel kinda terrible for her.

the quote about the spreading seeds and popping out babies is absolutely disgusting.

the rest of the quote is honestly sad to me. i can understand why her grandparents did what they did - to not feel othered, for their kids not to be either. but they still were given that 3 generations in and jessica still feels (or felt) like she didn't belong to any culture.

Yeah I do get some of that - im Puerto Rican and my Spanish is pretty awful and nonexistent too for much of the same reasons. My parents grew up here in NY but their parents lived in PR and they were the first to grow up on the “mainland” - and even then, my mom bounced between NY and PR. I definitely get feeling othered; the Latin kids wanted nothing to do with me growing up and the white kids called me spic every day from 1st to 8th grade. Despite that, I would never have said that shit about my ethnicity or culture. I can’t imagine ever telling someone that I cut loose from being Puerto Rican or lamenting how unfair it is that someone who is “more Latin” than me doesn’t get that label

While gross, I will tell you most Mexicans I know say the same thing. One of my co-works says all the time 'I have 50 cousins, we're Mexican all we do is make babies' so while it's something people are uncomfortable with, I feel like it's one of those things that people within the culture aren't as uncomfortable with

But being that Jessica has made very clear she is not within that culture and does not want to be, she doesn’t get to open her mouth and say that shit

"I had a very American upbringing, I feel American, and I don't speak Spanish. So, to say that I'm a Latin actress, OK, but it's not fitting; it would be insincere."

I understand what she was trying to say here and I've heard many 3rd or 4th gen POC say something similar as well.

I also do wonder if she didn't want the "spicy hot latina" stereotype attributed to her by gross men, so she tried to downplay her background for that reason. Hell, I get the spicy latina/caliente comments from men in the States when I used to travel for work there & even as a non-latina it made me uncomfortable as hell.

She also said something about how she had been dieting since she was a kid because she didn’t want to fat like us. Some shit along those lines. I mean, no offense to her, but has she looked in the mirror? She’s not exactly white passing so Idg how she was able to bypass prejudice in Hollywood specifically. One of my friends even thought she was half-black because of her features. Charlie Sheen has even talked about he couldn’t get jobs with his original name. Idk if she was ignoring shit on purpose, or....
