To be fair, if these kids are worried about offensive lyrics then 99.9 percent of the music industry would need to be canceled.

Hip Hop and Rap especially

Kids don’t even truly ever realize what they’re jamming to until they’re about 13/14 lol

Calling him Mister Coffee with that automatic drop & suggesting they do it doggystyle so they can both watch X-Files are such stand-out lyrics tbh. Special mention to her making boats capsize on her thighs after getting specific in her south seas and requiring a high tides advisory.

...I need to go listen to this now, goddamn what a clever song

God, this reminds me how the first season of German popstars randomly played "The Ballad of Chasey Lain" in the background for a good while with all those wholesome lyrics :D I wonder if the makers of the show even understood the lyrics and did that on purpose or if they didn't and just thought the song was nice lol

I was 17 when I realized 2 become 1 is about sex and Frollo's song on hunchback of notre dame is basically about his blue balls over Esmeralda. Some of us take longer lol

I remember watching Disney Sing-a-long and the part in 'Maybe there's something there that wasn't there before' where Chip kept asking, "What's there mama?" I was hoping they would tell him, so I would know too -_-"

LMAO, this popped up in my memories on FB the other day - I wrote it in 2015 when I was 30yo.

“I haven't seen The Hunchback of Notre Dame since I was like 11. Watching it now and realizing that the old man was thirsty for Esmeralda (and blamed his lust on her - OF COURSE 😏) = mindblown.”

I cannot believe they put Hellfire in a kids' film, Hunchback to this day is my favorite Disney movie, despite its faults.

That is true. And I say this as a former die hard Eminem fan back in my youth. There's a reason why I haven't bothered listening to him in many years since his lyrics are stupid and harmful. Like, I know he made a song addressing this subject specially (Stan and Sing for the moment comes to mind) but truth is youths and people in general are always going to be influenced by the words and lyrics to a song, you know? But truth be told that also depends on the person themselves. One of my favorite Creed songs talks about suicide and feeling depressed but I myself would never do that just because of what I'm hearing. Unfortunately somebody would because of what they are hearing and let themselves be influenced by it.

I guess I'm lucky in the sense that I never had any song influence me even though I was aware of the subject matter

I wish. I was a sweet summer child. I was on a mission trip in high school and requested the college aged musician play “hurt so good.” 💃🏼
