I didn't know about his affair with the 17-year-old model, I'm glad she was able to speak up about it. I also didn't know much about Manhattan except that it was about him dating a 17-year-old, so seeing the footage from that was fucking disgusting. Mariel Hemingway looked and sounded SO young and the way everyone in the film just talked about it like it was nothing...

I've never seen Manhattan and only vaguely knew the plot. The image of a group of 40somethings sitting around a dinner table with their buddy and his 17-year-old girlfriend was insane to watch. How the hell was this script greenlit? It's disgusting.

i've never seen any of his films - i knew what they were about but i never realised what they were really like. the clips they showed, like a supercut of the much younger woman seducing the older man in every single movie? and the guy they interviewed saying that even his unfinished works had the same theme. yuck.

I wanted to vom at those Manhattan clips. His "girlfriend" had such a babyface and he had her talking about having great sex with him!

he creeped on Mariel in real life too, he tried to convince her to fly to Paris with him like literally the minute she turned 18. iirc she said no because he wouldn't give her a straight answer when she asked if they'd be sharing a hotel room.

She made an effort to say in this episode that she was “sticking to the story” that she was 17 when their relationship began, but in this interview from 2018, she said:

(1) she was 16 when she met him

(2) he didn’t ask her age, but he knew she was in high school and lived at home with her parents

(3) the started having sex months before she turned 17

He didn’t confirm his relationship with her when she came out with the news, BUT he also had a relationship with another 17 year old girl around the same time when he was 42 (she’s named in the interview above). She has spoken about it publicly and in his 2020 book, he said he slept with her.
