i guess that's cool! but like... it's always the same 3-5 superheroes over and over again, i'm honestly bored lol. aren't there some canonically black superheroes who can get their own movies instead? does warner bros ONLY have the rights to batman and superman??

I think WB has the rights to all the DC characters for movies? So like, yes, there are canonically black superheroes that they could make movies about. But WB probably thinks that using a big name like Superman is the only way to make money?? IDK. I understand nothing about the WB's strategy when it comes to DC movies.

i'm beginning to think they have no strategy lol. honestly i've never understood why wb (and disney too) don't take more ~risks with their comic book movies when they are proven cash cows even when the reviews are bad. like, just try something different and new! people will flock to see it anyway!! so frustrating haha

That's what I came here to say..

Batman, Superman, The Joker. Rinse and repeat as often as needed.

DC just hired a writer for Blue Beetle movie, who is latino in the comics.

I'll believe in that movie when I'll see the filming pictures.

Right?! I'm bored. Say what you want about Marvel but at least they're not afraid to take risks with their superheroes.

i will shit talk marvel all day but at least they're finally trying some interesting ideas! took them long enough but i'm intrigued by what's coming, which is more than i can say for the dceu lol

on one hand yeah marvel does make movies about lesser known heroes (dr. strange for example i guess) but is it really a big risk when they attach huge name stars to their projects now? chris hemsworth is the only non-big actor i can think of when he first came on for thor. but like benedict cumberbatch, scarlett johansson, mark ruffalo, chadwick boseman, etc. are all famous in their own right and bring their own fanbases to the movies i assume.

meh, scarlett and benedict are the only ones that i would really consider famous with their own fanbase pre-marvel. The rest were working actors but not household names by any measure. Even Chris Evans was c-list at best, captain america was 100% his star making role.

oh yeah, i definitely agree about chris evans.

A Static Shock movie is "in development".
We were supposed to have a Cyborg movie, but it's over now I guess.
There are rumors of a Green Lantern movie for years and a Vixen movie but I don't know much about it.

But I'm sure that this new Superman will come out before all of them because why try when you can be basic 🙄

DC/WB is very afraid of stepping outside of the Trinity of Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman right now which is why their properties are failing so badly imo. There's not enough variety. In terms of black superheroes, there are plenty within DC canon who could get their own movies. John Stewart Green Lantern, Cyborg, Steel, Black Lightning, Static, Batwing, Bumblebee, Rocket, Vixen, Aqualad...

Some of their properties have done badly because they had shit screenwriters and shit directors. It's not fear of stepping anywhere. It's junk. When they make better films, they do better.

There's "not enough variety" because they don't want to risk introducing stand alone characters, they prefer to spin them off of an established franchise. That's their business model.

I'm not sure why this comment is worded so aggressively but I agree with you that WB hires shit screenwriters and fears introducing standalone characters.

I wasn't trying to sound aggressive, it's just facts. I agree with you that they have plenty of other characters and stories they could tell, but they're not creative people in charge of greenlighting these deals. They're basically accountants and if they had any imagination, they wouldn't be studio executives, they'd be doing the writing/directing, etc.
