I...disagree.

I work in animation on a show using Unreal for the first time. Is this them using Unreal as well and trying to amalgamate 2D + 3D?

I also think I hate it bc it looks like a bad shroom trip. Of which I may or may not have had while watching Rugrats 😂

Edited to add: Reptar really was the best. Also that sassy bitch Cynthia - you do NOT wanna fight her

To be fair look at the source material. The character design is wild and creepy lol

Very true, but I feel like often with 3D the lighting/shading/FX is still really off. I just wish they'd embrace more complex 2D while keeping semi-faithful to the OG.

Not everything needs the 3D treatment today - 2D still has amazing capabilities.

Oh I totally agree, I wish there was more of a push for 2D. But I don't mind this version, at least everything looks soft. I dislike a lot of 3D because of how sharp everything looks, if that makes sense.

Oh totally! Sharpness is smthng we're constantly combatting in 3D, which is why I asked if you knew if they used Unreal for this as it tends to pick up on those lines a lot more and a skilled person can then smooth it out, making it look a lot softer/smoother and better.

This doesn't look BAD. But I wish they didn't go 3D a la the new SpongeBob movie...
