Woody Allen Releases Statement on HBO's Latest Docuseries 'Allen v Farrow'

HBO aired the first episode of its four-part docuseries “Allen v. Farrow” on Sunday, setting up for a deep dive into the 1992 custody battle between Woody Allen and Mia Farrow. Allen was accused of molesting their 7-year-old daughter Dylan Farrow and had also begun a relationship with Mia’s college-age daughter from another relationship, Soon-Yi Previn.
Most of the series was apparently done in secret to prevent Allen from interfering or smearing the Farrow family in the press. Last night, Allen released a statement regarding the series:
These documentarians had no interest in the truth. Instead, they spent years surreptitiously collaborating with the Farrows and their enablers to put together a hatchet job riddled with falsehoods. Woody and Soon-Yi were approached less than two months ago and given only a matter of days ‘to respond.’ Of course, they declined to do so.
As has been known for decades, these allegations are categorically false. Multiple agencies investigated them at the time and found that, whatever Dylan Farrow may have been led to believe, absolutely no abuse had ever taken place. It is sadly unsurprising that the network to air this is HBO - which has a standing production deal and business relationship with Ronan Farrow. While this shoddy hit piece may gain attention, it does not change the facts.
The filmmakers (Kirby Dick, Amy Ziering and Amy Herdy) said that they had reached out to Allen, Soon-Yi Previn as well as Moses Farrow and received no response.
For years Woody Allen’s rep pressured me and every journalist who covered him to do so a certain way. Dangled and withdrew access based on an outlet’s willingness to ignore his daughter. Watch the doc or don’t, but don’t be naive about Allen’s ability to communicate his own POV.
