I don't particularly get it either but it's probably a form of denial/compartmentalizing things.

Or she's a terrible person....I wanna give her the benefit of the doubt so I wanna assume the former. :|

Both evan and esme went back to manson after having already been abused, are they terrible people too? I don’t get this kind of judgment or why it should only fall on dita. It’s not uncommon with emotional abuse.

trauma is really complex. it's not that hard, unfortunately, to see her thinking maybe he's changed or the years softening memories until things explode like this.

Yeah. And I think especially with the tendency to self-blame for trauma, I can see there being something seductive about the idea of "mutual forgiveness" and mistaking civility with your abuser for "closure" (i.e. your ability to "grow and be the better person"/"let go of your anger"/"lay the past to rest"). Like, oh we can both agree, we were both imperfect and had warped views of the situation and it wasn't THAT bad! Is maybe easier to handle than "nope, it was that bad and he really was a monster and I really was/am that fucked up by it".
