Indie Film Release Guide: February 5th [An ONTD Original]
It’s a new month, and while it may not feel much different from the last eleven, each one brings us a little closer to going back to movie theaters. But it’s still gonna be a little while, so this week’s post is chock full of films you can watch at home.
The films listed are from studios other than the “Big Six” - Paramount, Warner Brothers, 20th Century Fox, Universal, Columbia/Sony and Disney. All films listed will be available at their respective sources on Friday unless otherwise noted. Malcolm and Marie

Earwig and the Witch

Plot: It follows an orphan girl, Earwig, who is adopted by a witch and comes home to a spooky house filled with mystery and magic.
What you should know: Kacey Musgraves voices the main character’s mother and sings the theme song for the film, “Don’t Disturb Me”, which plays in the trailer.

Two of Us
Stars: Barbara Sukowa, Martine Chevallier, Léa Drucker , Jérôme Varanfrain
Writer: Malysone Bovorasmy, Filippo Meneghetti, Florence Vignon
Director: Filippo Meneghetti
Genre: Drama, Romance, LGBT
Plot: Pensioners Nina and Madeleine have hidden their deep and passionate love for many decades, but their bond is put to the test when they are suddenly unable to move freely between each other's apartments.
What you should know: Official submission of France for the Best International Feature Film category of the 93rd Academy Awards in 2021.

A Glitch in the Matrix
Director: Rodney Ascher
Genre: Documentary
Storyline: Documentary filmmaker Rodney Ascher tackles this question "are we living in a simulation?" with testimony, philosophical evidence and scientific explanation in his for the answer.
What you should know: Someone should watch and let us know if we are indeed living in the matrix… could explain some stuff.

Bliss
Stars: Owen Wilson, Salma Hayek, Nesta Cooper, Jorge Lendeborg Jr.
Writer/Director: Mike Cahill
Genre: Drama, Romance, Sci-Fi
Plot: A mind-bending love story following Greg who, after recently being divorced and then fired, meets the mysterious Isabel, a woman living on the streets and convinced that the polluted, broken world around them is a computer simulation.
What you should know: This is the second movie in this roundup about living in a simulation… much to think about.

M.C. Escher: Journey to Infinity
Writer: Robin Lutz, Marijnke de Jong
Director: Robin Lutz
Genre: Documentary
Storyline: The story of world famous Dutch graphic artist M.C Escher (1898-1972). Equal parts history, psychology, and psychedelia, Robin Lutz’s entertaining, eye-opening portrait gives us the man through his own words and images: diary musings, excerpts from lectures, correspondence and more are voiced by British actor Stephen Fry, while Escher’s woodcuts, lithographs, and other print works appear in both original and playfully altered form.
What you should know: This opened in the Netherlands in 2018, but is just now getting a US release.

Little Fish

Genre: Romance, Sci-Fi
Plot: A couple fights to hold their relationship together as a memory loss virus spreads and threatens to erase the history of their love and courtship.
What you should know: Based on the short story by Aja Gabel.

Rams

Plot: A decades-long feud between two sheep farming brothers comes to a head when disaster strikes their flocks.
What you should know: Based on the 2015 Icelandic movie of the same name.

Falling

Genre: Drama
Plot: John Peterson lives with his partner Eric and their adopted daughter in Southern California. When he is visited by his aging father Willis from Los Angeles who is searching for a place to retire, their two very different worlds collide.
What you should know: Director David Cronenberg appears in the film as a proctologist.

Reunion
Stars: Julia Ormond, Emma Draper, John Bach, Nancy Brunning

Genre: Mystery, Thriller
Plot: A pregnant woman returns to her recently-deceased grandparents' old family home to spend time with her estranged mother. What begins as a tenuous reunion slowly turns terrifying.
What you should know: Filmed in New Zealand.
