The one hope I have is that a publicized impeachment trial could at least sway public opinion? Like if a highly televised and talked about impeachment trial in the Senate plastered all over the news that shows how guilty Trump is could be bad for Republicans when they vote to acquit him anyway.

No, he's already backed off of starting a third party, it's not that. They're all Republicans, and impeaching and convicting him reflects badly on THEM. This isn't even about Trump for them and it was never about justice or accountability.

It's all about them getting re-elected and they think if they admit they enabled Trump to attempt a coup, they will be held responsible. They are responsible, but they think if they can sweep it under the rug, it will all go away and be forgotten. But if he's convicted, it will never be forgotten.

It's not going away, no matter what they do. Those days are over. Just like McConnell folding to Schumer. He no longer has any power. It's all over for them, they just can't stand to face it. They will learn that they need to unify with Dems by being held accountable, not that Dems need to forget all the shit they did and pretend it didn't matter to achieve unity.

Edit: Found the source. According to Snopes & White House website, it temporary suspends all Trump previous federal rules. It's temporary postpone of all rules for 60 days.

It's not permanent freeze, but again, we don't know until it ends.

My second stimulus check actually arrived today, I had looked up the status last week on the IRS website & was frustrated to find that they’d sent a paper check by mail, whereas they’d sent our first one by direct deposit (?!?) I was so convinced it would never arrive or worse, wind up in my absentee neighbor’s overflowing mailbox & lost forever.

It was weird to see the check printed with “President Donald J. Trump” on it & I thought to myself “Hopefully that’s the last time that will ever be embossed on anything”. It’s being deposited directly into my savings account tomorrow. I’m expecting to owe taxes this year so honestly it’ll probably roll straight back to the government.

Yesterday I went to bed early & upset because I’ve gleaned over the last week that my boss & several coworkers have no intention of getting the COVID vaccine (& we’re eligible for the next/current phase of roll-out in group 1B of rollout). I’m not sure what to say really, I just hope I can get vaccinated soon as I’m a customer facing “essential worker”.
