Being Black in America is more than about oppression. To reduce the Black American experience to oppression fundamentally misunderstands that Black Americans possess a distinct culture and we are not just a racial/ethnic group. Furthermore, "Black people are all Black" is the same faulty, intellectually dishonest reasoning people use when we try to talk about intracommunity issues like colorism. If you Zoom out from individual casting decisions, the fact is in the aggregate, Black American actors are being denied opportunities to play our legends because of specious reasoning. It's really ugly.
