American Girl, the toy company that makes a line of popular dolls, released its annual Girl of the Year for 2021. The doll's name is Kira Bailey, and she is an aspiring animal conservationist living in Australia.
But the doll community online is apparently pretty pissed! Why?
- The doll has lesbian aunts
- The doll is blonde and white, and there have only been 5 POC Girls of the Year (there have been 20 total)
- The doll's story may involve traveling to Australia during COVID
One of the American Girl Doll communities I lurk in is currently having a meltdown because it was revealed that the new Girl of the Year doll for 2021 may have lesbian aunts.

They are also half-furious because the doll is very involved in the Australian wildfires and they are speculating that she may TRAVEL to Australia, which no one understands how she can possibly do, given COVID.
