They would if they delivered exactly what the director wanted, which is what Pattinson did for Anthony Campos. The director said he was happy that Pattinson had prepared the accent on his own time, without working with a coach. Full interview in IndieWire.
If he had delivered a perfect accent in his ten previous films, I don't see why it would be a problem.
Pattinson has played an American so often, some people still don't realize he's British. He's created 4 distinct NY accents alone, and played Southern 3 times, none of which drew any criticism. His directors trust him to deliver the correct accent for the role, whether he works with a coach or not.
There's a story Paul Giamatti tells about how when Pattinson was playing a New Yorker on Cosmopolis, that Giamatti didn't know he was British. When he arrived on set, they went right into rehearsing their 20 minute long scene and at the end of the day, he heard Rob speaking to a crew member in his own voice, a whole conversation. Giamatti went over to Cronenberg and said, "why is this kid putting on an English accent?" He had worked with Pattinson all day and was convinced he was a New Yorker. If someone is that good, they can work how they want to work.
When Paul Giamatti showed up for his 20-minute long scene with Pattinson at the end of Cosmopolis, Paul said he was very nervous but immediately relaxed when he learned that Pattinson not only knew all of his dialog, but he knew all of Paul's dialog as well. He said he knew he was in the hands of a professional, even tho Pattinson was so young.
Cronenberg was able to bring that film in a week ahead of schedule because Pattinson nailed every scene with a maximum of two takes and couldn't be easier to work with.
Fucking lie. He's specifically said he's not a method actor. I guess you missed his Variety "Actors on Actors' interview with Jennifer Lopez where he said, "isn't it interesting that people only claim to be method actors when they're playing an asshole?"
This whole story is fake. They're not shooting 50 takes of anything and The Sun is well known for making up shit that never happened.
