What about this article implies the director's behavior is abusive? 50 takes sounds incredibly difficult in the costume, I'll give you that, but many jobs are incredibly difficult - at least RP is being compensated incredibly well for his hard work. Most people work much more menial, back-breaking jobs and will never in their lifetimes make what Robert Pattison makes in a single day of filming. A lot is being asked of him and they're paying for it. I don't want to handwave away bad behavior but having to do a scene 50 times doesn't immediately equate abuse to me without more context or information.
A lot of directors are assholes on a power trip who make people suffer for no good reason other than they can but I feel like that's a leap when all we have to go on is "RP has to redo this scene 50 times to get it right". Does this dude have a history of being a monster to work with?
I don't think we have enough information to say whether it's abuse or not, but comments that are basically "he can't complain, because he's making a lot of money" are kind of dismissive of the possibility that something shitty might be going on.
And I think he just had COVID, unless I'm confusing my superhero movie actors.
I think everyone's jumping to conclusions - there has to be a medium between "shut the fuck up and take it, rich boi" and "this director is abusing his actor for shits and giggles, what an asshole". I don't deny that 50 takes is a LOT and if he's being an asshole/yelling at RPatz Shelly Duval style, that's fucked for sure, but when you're spending $100 mil on a movie and filming a pivotal scene, you better make sure you get the damn shot. Maybe Marion Cottillard should have done her own Batman death scene 50 times over... I bet she wishes she had tbh
I think the line that signals bullying/abuse is “It’s like sometimes he doesn’t know when to stop” especially when coupled with someone reaching their breaking point because of it.
