Daisy Ridley covers Tatler.

She reveals that she's been told that she is intimidating:

“That was on Chaos Walking. I was having my hair done, having my wig put on. I remember thinking, ‘God, should I be smaller? Should I be quieter?’”

Chaos Walking, a sci-fi fantasy adventure film directed by Doug Liman

This is what you get for expressing an opinion while being female. "Aggressive." "Intimidating." My personal favourite, "feisty"

It's coded language for the same old bullshit where being a woman showing conviction or standing your ground on a topic, no matter how calmly you do so, will get you tagged as emotional or aggressive etc where a man doing the same would not get commented on. And of all those various terms, "feisty" in particular is heavily gendered - it gets used waaaaaaaay more about women, and in particular it's used in a lot of bogus racial stereotypes about minority women.

It's just my favourite of the bunch because it has this extra special veiled condescending quality to it. They won't straight up accuse you of being dramatic/angry/whatever, but they're passive aggressively letting you know your card's been marked.

Yep. Also a lot around resumes where submitting the exact same document under a male name yields much more positive response
