I wish people would stop posting pics of themselves at their LW period. People are always doing that in their ~recovery stories etc. and it triggers so many people, it's basically thinspo. Like that was a clear body check pic from Halsey.

I had someone ask me to see a LW pic when I confessed I had previously struggled with an ED and was legitimately shocked. I have very few of them because I still felt fat and ugly even at my LW. In the few I do have I look fairly healthy, which fuelled my ED for years because I didn't look like I was eating less than 800 calories a day. I was constantly telling myself it was fine because it was the '00s and I didn't look like Nicole Richie running on the beach level skinny ( ... )

I am *so* glad camera phones weren't a thing when I was at my lowest, in fact i think i only have two pictures of myself from when I was really unwell and I haven't looked at them in years.

I have so few full-body shots from that time, but a lot of selfies taken with my digital camera (this was 2010-11). Weirdly, I wish I had more. I had such a distorted body image, it would be interesting to see more of what I really looked like. I know how I felt and what I thought.

I have conflicting feelings about it bc I follow a few influencers who talk about EDs and they always use pictures of themselves @ their lw next to pictures of them now, looking bigger and visibly happier. So I don't think they should "hide" that stage of their lives, especially when they're sharing it along with a positive message. I wish we could have less b/a pictures for weight loss tho but I understand that would never happen bc losing a lot of weight is something that makes a lot of people proud.

So yeah, conflicting feelings.

the problem is that most ppl in the ed community online were emaciated when sick and recovered to a size 6/8 body, so for a bigger person whose sickest, most malnourished body was a size 14, it encourages them that they’re not sick. it’s more harmful than helpful.

i don’t understand why they can’t just post themselves now (or a regular throwback pick without mentioning the ed) without the comparison.

I don't think people should feel the need to hide or be ashamed of that stage of their lives, but it definitely doesn't help if you're pushing a recovery message to show what's essentially thinspo.

In my own socials I have posted pictures at some of the worst parts of my ED - somewhat of a risk given the people who asked were also recovering like me, and I worried these pictures could cause lapses. One of the issues my online social circle and I have faced is the part of EDs where you share pictures with other people and start bragging or congratulating or being "jealous" of how amazing someone looks because they're so thin etc. We all either are or claim to be recovering, but you never know what could trigger someone vulnerable. I have never had anyone tell me they had a negative outcome from seeing my worst pictures, and all comments are generally supportive of recovering, but I do wonder.

That said, I haven't posted anything like that in years and now if someone else I just speak to them in private.
