All that fluff when the last few words are all that's needed....

I'm ashamed I was sick a bohemian fan as a kid. The Marshall Mathers EP and the Eminem show were albums I absolutely loved as a youth. Jesus.

yeah, my cousins and i were very into the MM lp, but we were 10, 11, and 12 and didn't realize how terrible the implications of his music was and thought of it as just pure entertainment like i'm sure a lot of us here did. don't beat yourself up too much, our bb brains couldn't comprehend the severity of how awful of a person he was and still is!

“like i’m sure a lot of us here did”

lmao ok coming to a post where eminem tries to own up to his many many examples of pure misogyny to excuse yourself and others for being a fan of him...

btw hated eminem as a child, teen, and adult

but maybe that’s just me as a young black female child. i just had to tolerate him because of all the white kids(of all economic classes) wouldn’t shut up about him and he was on MTV 24/7

oh i'm def not a listener of him at all now and i'm sure a good bit of us DID listen to him even if causally on the radio or something, i didn't mean it as being a die hard fan.

and i'm a black female too???? like, my little brain just didn't comprehend like HEY THIS IS REALLY FUCKED UP!!!!! and probably thought it was ~edgy because everything else i listened to then was pure saccharine pop, so i mean i don't know how else to explain it. i've obviously grown up and don't listen to anything this man does now or go back to his old stuff because he's horrid, we can't say sit here and say we knew every right from wrong thing as children. i wish i could say that i did, but i think it's alright to admit that i just didn't have that capacity of thinking at the time and wouldn't listen to someone like that now twenty something years later.

ok. i get that. i just didnt like the tone of your comment excusing past eminem fans as “we were all kids” when there are still racist and misogynistic people on this website who probably still see him as “okay” and not as the complete red flag he is

like every single person i have known who may say or has said something like “yeah i was a big fan of eminem as a kid” is fucking racist/sexist and it will slip eventually or they already did some massively offensive shit and are taking time to “learn and grow” for the past 5 years of their life

idk i just hate the blanket excuses of him especially when that includes people who have no real intentions of caring or reflecting on why it was bad other than “kids will be kids”

i totally get that! i mean, i never took what i listened to by him out into the world outside of my house, but i can definitely understand having to be around people who did and taking it way too far just because they can being extremely uncomfortable to be around, so i for sure see where you're coming from. and oh nah, this man can most definitely fuck off forever, like people that still listen to him i will DEF judge!!!!! he obviously hasn't changed his ways and will forever keep proving he ain't fucking shit. eminem is never a hill to die on!

mte.
I sang along to so many songs I didn’t understand the lyrics to when I was little.
I think I was like 13 when I finally found out what my fave song, “my neck, my back”, meant for example lol

I was never a super fan like some of my classmates but I deff liked a lot of his songs when I was little bc of the beats or whatever (and he was literally everywhere back then). But his lyrics actually make me sick now that I understand them.

jfc if you were this mature as a kid, then you're definitely regressing by not being able to recognize that not everyone has the same upbringings and that choices aren't made in a vacuum.

literally who condescends about the type of music they listened to as a CHILD omfg
