I don't think the situation is comparable??? Jesy's been very public about her struggles and her suicide attempt, and how she loved her art and her bandmates but hated the perception and scrutiny. Also, Jesy's leaving hardly has the same abruptness or coldness that Zayn's did. You can feel her and her bandmates sadness, regret and friendship through it all.
If he IS right and Zayn left because of his own mental health struggles we aren't aware of, then he just sounds even more like an ass for downplaying it.
zayn has talked about how his decision to leave was driven in part by his mental health struggles, and by how he felt creatively unfulfilled during his final years with the band. yeah there was a scandal, and i'm not implying it didn't influence his decision to leave so abruptly. i'm just saying in the years since he left we've gotten more insight into what drove that choice
Setting aside the delulu fan reading of band friendships, Idt One Direction was even at the same level of friendship that the LM girls have. This didn't come out of nowhere.

Ugh you said it so well! The fact that no one even speculates there was a rift between the girls speaks to their maturity, friendship and how hard this decision was :( makes me even more feelsy!!
