I love Taylor's music don't get me wrong but I don't understand her darling critical praise. Her albums I would say fit the 75% good range (where 3/4 of the album is good with a few album exceptions) yet she hits almost every top 5 list for every year she releases an album. I like folklore but I feel like songs blend a little too much. It's a 7/10 album (for me). Maybe it's cause she deviated so much and "took a risk."

This album is much higher ranked than her last couple of releases. It hit much better with critics and deservedly so. It's more coherent as an album, and I like that it's on a mission, sound-wise, without misplaced radio singles.

THATS WHAT IT IS! Thank you! She always has a few crap songs that are obviously either fluff or radio bait and she didnt with folklore or Evermore and it honestly makes everything a million times better. Even the songs I don’t love I can leave on and don’t need to skip bc they’re just not my vibe, not straight up awful (looking at u, shake it off, WANGBT, etc)

I definitely think that's a big part of it. If another artist released it the reviews wouldn't be as good but by Taylor standards it comes off as more impressive because the lows in her song catalog are complete trash so she wins just by not having songs like Me! and Shake It Off on the album.

as much as folklore means to me (cue the boos) fiona's was the best of the year.

not sure if this is an unpopular opinion but i also liked punisher more than stranger in the alps. i think motion sickness is still probably my favorite song by her, but chinese satellite and moon song are amazing.

slightly ot and different genre but i'm so happy chloe and halle are getting mainstream recognition. i haven't been this excited about an artist/act and their potential in a while.

i didn't get the hype for phoebe until 'punisher' tbh, it's a great album

TS and folklore were my top artist/album this year and I love a few songs so much on Evermore (tis the damn season, champagne problems, happiness, and Evermore are the ones I truly love) but Fi is in a whole different league of talent and totally deserves to be number 1.

Run the Jewels deserve more attention.

I saw them open for Lorde in 2018 and they were amazing.
