Dec 07, 2020 18:06

We all know that the straights lack taste, however, they are unfortunately the majority. This means that they are able to propel bland and uninspired artists to the top of the music charts whilst more deserving artists are left to flop. So while the straights praise basics like *d Sh**r*n, Em*n*m and J*st*n B**b*r, this ONTD Original looks at the ( Read more... )

Dirrty was a far different time. I loved it. I thought it was amazing. America wasn't ready. Now WAP broke records. lol Funny how things change.

Edit: people that were too young to remember all of the pearl clutching won't get how much Xtina shook up the world with that video. The think pieces. The outrage!

dirrty was a pop culture moment in its own right, but back then the charts were basically exclusively radio based as digital sales/streaming weren't really things yet

if music video views counted for the charts back then it almost certainly would have hit #1

same reason britney barely had any hot 100 hits back in the day.. they were still successful, just not on the single charts. their albums were still big.

Love that this is the first comment.

Yes, Xtina did THAT. It was such a sexual awakening for me haha. I blame Xtina for my inevitable ho phase.

Same tbh.
I remember watching the E-true hollywood on Xtina, and iirc it was hella controversial and she was slut-shamed pretty bad for it so it didn't do that well.
They ended up rushing to release 'Beautiful' after it bc of the controversy.

"motivation" was PRIMED to be a hit. built-in fanbase and it's a certified bop. That label doesn't deserve ha.

Wow, I cannot believe "Dancing on My Own" and "Dirrty" flopped!! I like "Batches & Cookies", but I'll admit that I only discovered it after Lizzo released the Coconut Oil EP.
