the “joke” in question is awful and throws me back to kindergarten when my best friend pulled her eyes and did the rhyme. that was the very first instance i remember of being made aware that my eyes were not only different but perceived as narrow and ugly and unattractive, and to this day i still feel overly conscious about them lol

I am SEA and I have big eyes with double eyelids and I still had dumb fucks pulling their eyes to make fun of me. It’s really less about how you look and more about how racist and ugly they are.

my colleague...who i still think is one of the most beautiful chinese woman i ever met got the double eyelids surgery...i tried so hard to persuade her not to. but she told me when she was young, kids always make fun of her single eyelids ... and some kid asked how can she see with her eyes. it stay with her all these years, even now when she’s successful and so beautiful...she still feel it needed to be fix. she still look beautiful with the double eyelids but it was not necessary.

tbh i definitely know how she feels/felt :( i live a very happy life overall and my bf tells me all the time my eyes are beautiful and one of the things he likes about me most but i genuinely cannot believe that he’s telling the truth

racist experiences in childhood can really fuck you up :/
