Just the other day she was calling out the academy for awarding Gwyneth Paltrow, so I wouldn't say she's campaigning relentlessly, much less over a mediocre netflix movie. She's got the Sunset boulevard musical up her sleeve & years of being overlooked in favor of much less talented actresses so I honestly doubt she thought this would be her shot.

she could absolutely still get a nomination. anything could happen this Oscars, I really do not want them to cancel since this year still has so many great films regardless of the theatrical issues.

I think that she does not give a shit about that Oscar and and Hillbilly elegy is her way of saying so.

Review from Rolling stone:

The role is practically reverse-engineered for the veteran actor to play it somewhere between “I will not be ignored!” and “I’m ready for my close-up, Mr. DeMille!” The performance itself might be best summed up by the statement, “This is what happens when you don’t give Glenn Close the Oscar for The Wife.”

She’s also, however, the single best thing in a calico dress about this cinematic mess, and you can feel the film’s energy meter jump near the red every time Close shuffles, ambles, or hobbles on screen. As with so many actors who you grow accustomed to seeing in big, red-carpet-friendly films, we sometimes take the Fatal Attraction (or The Big Chill, or Dangerous Liaisons, or, er, Albert Nobbs - take your pick) star’s immense talents for granted.

I think that she chose this project as a big fat "Fuck You" to the academy. The movie is weak at best and while she acts unheeding, over the top she is still the best part in it. If nothing she ever did lead to her being apprecated enough to get an Oscar - she's now just having fun. Screw awards.

Lol, damn, are you a movie critic or something? I don't see how anyone could take that movie seriously.
