as someone who prides themselves on giving thoughful gifts. no. but as someone who has received a lot nonsense i know I'm in the minority. but at least a lot of people try their best to get something they think the other would like. In that scene I don't believe there was even an attempt at thinking about the other person.

My parents are not good gift givers to each other and generally don't find it important to give gifts to anyone else (well my dad's ~a man~ so he doesn't bother but my mom also does not care either), so that's the example I've grown up with, and I am not good at gifting lol. I've only rarely thought "the price of this does not matter because the receiver is important to me" bc I'm always stressed about the price lol
