I am so frustrated that they don’t test people here in Germany. I was sick last week and my throat is still sore and I had to exaggerate my symptoms and had to lie saying that my 65+ old parents with asthma live in my house to finally get tested, otherwise they literally just tell you to stay home for a week if you feel sick and if it goes away then you „probably don’t have it“. I always wonder how other countries can just test anyone and here we have no capacity. Clearly they must have been asleep all summer

That's interesting to hear because here in the States we were hearing about how Germany started testing people far earlier and with more frequency than other countries in Europe and that's why you guys were able to get a handle on the virus better and had less fatalities. I have friends in Berlin and they were able to get tested with no issues but that was early days. Maybe it depends on where you go?

I really hope you're feeling better.

Yeah it depends on how well organized the city is. I think it's also luck if whoever you call feels like you need a test. I mean you can get tested and pay for it yourself but I think this is about insurance covered tests.

I don’t think that Germany does anything special. People can get tested if they’re ill. Their doctors decide on their own if you have enough symptoms to get tested. But there seems to be a difference. I haven’t heard of people who get so sick that they have to go to the hospital.

If my mom hadn't tested positive before I'm sure they wouldn't have tested me here because I never had a cough or fever.

I live in Denmark and that's how we did it at first, you could only get tested if your situation was dire. But yeah we somehow got enough tests that you don't need a reason at all after that

Germans doctors and they way they practice "conservative medicine" in a pandemic is wild. My best friend is German and the thing she always complains about is how it takes like two doctor's visits to actually get anything done because doctors are so quick to be like "drink some tea, relax come back if it gets worse" I love you Germany, but your doctor's are whack.

Because of what? I never heard from anyone else in Germany that you need to visit two doctors. Some people just love to go to doctors.

Well that's kind of true actually. My boyfriend had severe stomach problems this year and he had to go to a second doctor twice to get a examination. The first doctors always thought he's so young, there can't be anything severe. But there actually was. You're lucky if you have a good doctor that gives you a transfer to an mri or CT instantly

It’s somewhat true. They only have like 10 to 15 min per patient and usually they just tell you to rest a lot and maybe some Ibus. Also to be able to see a specialist, you need to go to a regular doctor first and they need to give you a subscription to see a specialist. I had some issues with my 💩 and my doctor only told me to change my diet. I was being persistent and told him like hellllooooo could we run some tests? Blood? XR or anything?!

Yeah, similar story with my boyfriend. Took them ages to get an ct, blood work etc

Because we waste all those tests on football teams. Priorities.

I don't really want to take a test (I would of course if I had symptoms or was exposed and told to take on) it seems painful.

But I also got swine flu when that was going around, as did my mother and at that point they didn't test for it anymore at all so my teacher didn't believe me that I had had it when I returned to school two weeks later. It was one of the times I've been most sick and I don't care for a repeat.

The hits have been hitting closer to home lately though. We even had four positive cases (though two were WFH so they didn't interact with anyone) at work but thankfully they didn't spread it to anyone and those were the only cases this year.

The test itself is actually not that bad. The first time I got one was at the airport including nose and it had a sensual tickling feeling like when you get your ears cleaned 😅The second time at a doctors office they actually only took a sample from my throat.

Haha okay. As I said I would take one if necessary.

One of my colleagues got lung infection unrelated to covid and she was tested like 5 times. She hated it.

the test is more uncomfortable than painful. I got teary eyed (reflex) when they did it but I did not feel any pain.
