My mom was considered almost a spinster for getting married at 24. All her sisters and friends got married between the ages of 16-19, mostly to men 5-9 years older than them. They say they did it to get out of their parents‘ house and away from their strict rules....for sex, basically, my one aunt told me.

To be completely fair, Paul McCartney was only 20 when he wrote that song (I saw her standing there) and the last verse kind of makes it sound like the singer is recalling the night he fell in love... but yeah it's not a good look. So many examples... Be Bop a Lula, Sweet Little Sixteen, You're 16, even Dancing Queen. Also oop @ me for loving all these songs...

Reminds me that recently I found out Marvin Gaye wrote majority if not all the songs from his album "I Want You" about his soon to be wife Janis Hunter, who was 17 years old when they met. Plus at the time he met her he was 17 years older.

I was shocked too when I found out. I found out she wrote a book few years ago and found an article about it and man Marvin was a mess smh. The article goes into some of the things she talks about in her book.
