Amy Adams and Glenn Close elevate well but
#HillbillyElegy is just the wrong movie at the wrong time and feels like the cinematic equivalent of "all lives matter" & there are "very fine people on both sides." J.D. Vance's story unfolds like a Hallmark channel Sunday morning reel.

November 10, 2020 if you thought this netflix movie could finally get Amy and Glenn an Oscar in this empty season...maybe not
#HillbillyElegy is easily one of the worst films of the year.

November 10, 2020 Hillbilly Elegy really is that bad, but I can’t shake the feeling that there’s going to be another Green Book situation with it. (FWIW I thought Amy Adams actually was very good, but the sky is blue, grass is green, etc.)

November 10, 2020 Amy Adams gives one of the worst performances of the year in Netflix’s AWFUL Hillbilly Elegy.

November 10, 2020 This was about a movie about hillbillies and elegies whose embargo lifted today and not, in fact, the Trump administration as many of you supposed.

November 10, 2020 I liked Hillbilly Elegy. It's more August: Osage County than Mildred Pierce in the mama/daughter drama pantheon but two actresses like Amy Adams and Glenn Close eating up every tchotchke and spare tire in sight was great fun. Decidedly apolitical, gorgeously shot and scored.
