She was on one of those ancestry shows a few years ago and she makes it sound like her family thinks of themselves as Spanish more than Mexican in contrast to how she views herself.

She was on Finding Your Roots on PBS. Not only is she 70% European (genetically), her ancestors have DEEP roots in the former Texas/Mexican frontier. She’s generationally wealthy Tex-Mex.

Which is to say, OF COURSE her family want to be from Spain. This is about the whitest white-washing of Latinidad there can ever be.

She's white. She may have some indigenous or even black ancestry from generations ago, but she's white.

Agreed and not only the white part, tbh.

i also think that the vast majority of "white latinos" are not even white latinos, just fair skinned. and there might be some that are straight up white, but those are the ones who can track their European ancestors to a very recent point. the others? nah bruh you're mestizo with more white on you.

Yeah it rubs me the wrong way when people claim whiteness in people who look like her or Selena Gomez.

The caste system is alive and well in Latin America

Latin America has a huge variety of country and cultures. Someone like Eva Longoria and Selena Gomez could easily be considered white in Brazil.

I live in Mexico and I’m lighter than Eva and that’s not my experience at all

I understand which is why I emphasized Latin America has differences across countries. Mexico isn’t a parameter for the whole region.
