Joe Jonas & Sophie Turner are weird af for this. If they have the time to go on a walk with their baby what exactly is the purpose of the nanny being there & pushing the stroller for them? They’re too rich to do such a job or... 💀 pic.twitter.com/q2079yhb2t

I feel like I see too many people with kids who seem to have no interest in actively parenting and it makes me really uncomfortable. IDK the idea of having a kid and then either barely parenting or if you have the money, paying someone else just makes no sense to me.

yeah, my mom was just telling me about her best friend's daughter in law who is a teacher and therefore has summers off, but keeps her kids in all-day daycare all week so she can go to the pool and go shopping. I think it's a great idea to have a day to yourself if you can afford it, just bc you're off work does not mean you can't use daycare, but every day?? why? it seems like such a huge blessing to have all that time with your kids in the summer... i don't understand. she definitely seems like she had kids bc you're "supposed to"

Does she also teach kids? Because if so that adds a whole other layer to this.

There are a lot of people who have kids just because that's the next step in life and not because they actually are prepared or want kids

It's the case with one of my cousins. She loves her kids but she was also wholly unprepared for them mentally. She had them because Desi culture kind of demands it and doesn't acknowledge the individual toll children take

That’s exactly it

It may not be the case with this parent, but at a lot of daycare centers you loose your spot take you kid out. So if she wants to keep her spot, she has to keep paying, and who's going to pay a center if they have their kid at home all day. She's she'll eventually go back to work, she needs to keep her kid's spot. That said, a lot of parents will keep the kid home one day a week or pick them up early most days. But I can see why the kid would generally go.

That's what I thought. Also maybe the kid likes daycare and all their little friends are there too?

well, maybe. but this family also sucks in other ways lol. i don't know the specifics of their daycare but this definitely tracks with what i know about them - they aren't doing it because it's best for the child, that's for sure.

Yes, usually you have to book a permanent schedule, e.g. full-time weekly and if she'd take out the kid, she might still pay for the days the kid doesn't attend. It gets only flexible once the kid is in school.

Sure, but maybe she also feels her child is developing better social skills being around multiple children all day every day. Also, as others have stated, you lose your spot if you unenroll your kid.

My mom has been a teacher for 30+ years. During the summer, she'd work summer school but for the couple weeks she was out before school started up again, it was family time. My dad didn't get a ton of PTO but he would always take at least a week off so that we could all be together, even if we didn't go anywhere special. It really saddens me when I see parents who don't appreciate how valuable quality time together is.

my mom was a teacher as well and those childhood summers were magical. just speaking from my own experience, i don't know why you'd pass up the opportunity to make those memories if you have the option not to. your kids are only young once.

I know some people who if they have their kids in day care for even one day they have to pay for a week so even if they aren't working they keep the kids in day care. Another friend said if she kept her kid at home for two days the daycare would forfeit the week and she'd lose her spot. So while I agree with you it's weird I also think the whole day care system is kind of fucked up.
