Was Madison's pregnancy always in 2020? Were they always going to drop the drug trial storyline or was this change due to covid?

Randall was born before them, I feel like we already knew that?

I like that we finally saw more of Randall's mother, but the recon is tew much. I hate the way they retcon things on this show - everyone is wise and all-knowing about how in the past will affect the future. People crossing paths who we have never known to have crossed paths before. Glad they didn't make Randall's father talk to Jack.

Randall calling out Kate was sweet!!! It was definitely not the time for him to make her feel better.

She was pregnant with twins at the end of last season. Not sure what they'd planned with the drug trial but likely always going to be dropped somehow as they needed to keep her close to the others for storyline ( ... )

She was pregnant with twins at the end of last season. - I got that, but I guess I hadn't noticed how current that timeline was, I assumed it was in the not so distant future.

I guess retcon is not the right word, but I feel like they pulled it out of their ass tbh. Having her be alive the entire time is some soap opera writing. and feels like a rehash of Randall's father only this time Rebecca doesn't secretly know...or does she? or is it Jack's turn to have known?

They've been talking about his feelings about moms for a while... I'm not sure how they'll do it though since it'd be weird she never went to find William or anything like that... or maybe she got clean and is happily ever after somewhere, dunno! William didn't know, clearly, so I doubt Rebecca knew. It wouldn't make sense that Jack could have known either.

So the only real way they may interact might be a DNA test, maybe one of the kids does it for some reason? I guess we'll find out!

Luckily the producer said we will have answers early in the season about Randall's mom. I wouldn't be surprised if it was just same about her addiction that she didn't seem him out. She wouldn't go to the clinic because she didn't want the judgement.
"Our family dynamic, Randall's adoption story, his family, and these characters are really interesting. So for all those reasons, it felt very much of our show, even though we were exploring stuff that was in complicated thematic territory." #ThisIsUs https://t.co/9T6TxZktgq

She's been alive this entire time - no neighbour saw her being wheeled out alive and told william? If William thought she was dead, he loved her and didn't bother to even try and find out where she was burried? he had already given the child up so there was no worry of the child being taken away. There's a bit of a hole in the story tbh. I'm sure they will patch it up with something cheesey that explains it all away and helps everyone' situation make sense. I'm glad they are telling her side, but I can't help but feel this wasn't properly planned.

a piece of new information that imposes a different interpretation on previously described events, typically used to facilitate a dramatic plot shift or account for an inconsistency.

Reframing past events to serve a current plot need.

Retcon is a shortened form of retroactive continuity, and refers to a literary device in which the form or content of a previously established narrative is changed.

So the new info - Randall's mother being alive imposes a new interpretation on what we knew about his birth/life and obvs facilitates a plot shift. other examples: https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Retcon/LiveActionTV
