“Americanah” was supposed to start shooting earlier this year, but the production dates were pushed back due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This lead to a conflict in Lupita's diary so she then had to drop out.
The show received a 10-episode straight-to-series order with HBO. Both Nyong’o and Gurira were to serve as executive producers on the show, and Gurira writing and serving as showrunner.

Such a shame! Lupita was very passionate about this and had stalked/written to Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie before she even got her big break in "12 years a slave".
