OP just got covid and that's not even the worst news of this week. While we already knew Mindhunter's 3rd season was put on indefinite hold and the cast was released from their contracts in January, I feel like we all had a bit of hope that Fincher's new lame Netflix movie would flop and he'd come back to his senses and get started on season 3. HOWEVER, David Fincher pretty much confirmed it's never going to happen in a new interview with Vulture. Apparently, it was too tiring for him to work on it for that long and he doesn't want someone else to take over fully. There’s also the money thing.
"Listen, for the viewership that it had, it was a very expensive show,” Fincher said. “We talked about, ‘Finish Mank and then see how you feel,’ but I honestly don’t think we’re going to be able to do it for less than I did season two. And on some level, you have to be realistic - dollars have to equal eyeballs.”
My eyeballs would very much like new Mindhunter episodes and maybe more eyeballs would if Netflix would finally promote it, but whatever! A Netflix spokesperson confirmed a 3rd season isn't likely, and simply said "Maybe in five years."
