Was she the one that told the story? Did she think it'd make her look good and badass? Rich people are fucking wild, I hate them.

I see no issue with this... men would have done the same, if not more. We see these dudes throwing fits about MEMES right now, so in my opinion, it is what it is

Yes they probably would’ve. It still wouldn’t have been cool like idk
Are we just supposed to encourage everyone being greedy now

unless you're white, you should be greedy because it's empowering. shonda being mad her high-level exec contact refused to get her an extra $154 ticket made her ditch her hundreds of million of dollars Disney deal for a 300 million dollars Netflix deal. an inspiration for us all.

Right? It’s like when people think that black capitalism will somehow be better than white capitalism. Either way, people at the bottom get nothing and get treated like shit.

are you forgetting the part where disney asked a black woman 'don't you have enough?' are you black? cause that kind of attitude, where the white powers that be act like you should be so grateful just to be in the room, has been a constant in many of our lives and it's telling that a woman who built that goddamn network on her back and kept it afloat for years is being told to basically shut the fuck up and be grateful. then they humiliated her by not even holding true to their word and leaving her family stranded at the gates. you think they would do that to robert downey jr or barbara walters?

and why are you assuming that she thought this story would make her look "good and badass."

I struggle with this so much. At times I have to stop myself from convincing myself that having less and settling for less is enough.

Unconscious internalized self hatred is very real.

People in this post reducing this to “rich person asking for freebies” is exactly why when people talk about inequity through a predominately economic lens I get suspicious. She could have been in a meeting with the man and asked for a souvenir pencil (worth much less than a park pass and something I’m sure she certainly could afford) and to be met with the response “Don’t you have enough?” would mean the same thing. The people who can’t comprehend why this reaction was so momentous for a black woman who brought so much value to the company, especially, are completely missing the point. White men are never asked have they had enough in corporate America much less over a damn comp ticket.

I don't really have a horse in this race but c'mon Disney can definitely afford to do this for one of their best employees

This isn't a rich person showing off their elitism to working class/poor people story. Disney the corp makes WAY more money than Shonda Rhimes the individual.

my good sis, if Shonda had one iota of awareness about her class privilege she wouldn't be telling the story like that. someone who's trying to make a point about institutional racism/sexism (which is what people are assuming is the point) and isn't ignorant about the class component of those issues (which is kind of essential if you're a rich person who isn't an asshole) wouldn't say it like that and we all know it lol.

yes which is why i couldn't care less about Disney lol. they're fucking trash. and i mean Shonda Rhimes is more than an individual, she's literally a multi-million dollars brand and they lost the individual *and* the brand over a Disneyland All Access ticket. i am not sad for them, i just find the whole story and the way it was told dumb.
