Me either.

He's 100+ years old. She's a teenager he wants to murder. Then she's a teenager he wants to fuck, so he convinces someone to make a sex robot that look exactly like her that he can fuck whenever he wants. Then when she's isolated and deeply mentally traumatized, he preyed on a 20 year old's vulnerabilities because he wanted to fuck. And that's before you even get into the attempted rape.

Why do people hate Buffy so much they liked this for her?

People shipped themselves with Spike. It happens a lot with couples like this. They don't give a shit about the female counterpart. Bella, Buffy, Elena... they're merely self-inserts for some of these people.

Definitely. That's one of the reasons I absolutely LOATHE Jane Espenson's writing because she like violent, cruel men and the female character always needs to be actively ignoring the red flags.

I figure that it allows for both the "bad boy she can fix" stereotype & the fact they were allowed to be slightly more graphic with their sex scenes than they were in the early seasons with Angel, so it was deemed more appealing as a result.

I loved Spike as a villain + I loved Spike on "Angel," but Spuffy was always a no-go for me.

Probably. Although Angel and Buffy was even more gross because Buffy was a literal child and he's an old man who stalked her.

Yes, and Angel literally murdered her surrogate father's girlfriend.

But "bad boys" in a vampire show who aren't actually evil aren't that common.

I still have not watched more than 3 episodes of Buffy and this is horrific, wtf.

Yeah, her relationship before that was with a 200+ year old vampire who stalked her from age 15, fucked her on her 17th birthday, then turns evil.

A lot of it is portrayed as tragic or romantic as well instead of adult men preying on young women. :/

i can like a character and still like to see them in "bad" situations or even toxic relationships. i dont know where this idea came from that if you like a character you can only want them to be happy 24/7 all the time. thats not how i engage with fiction or how im interested in it.

I shipped them so much when it was airing and I was a teenager, now I look back like jesus teen me, that's not it, what that is is extremely damaging.

SAME. I was so excited when they got together, but that had a lot to do with my crush on James Marsters. Spike was an interesting character, but their "romance" was just sick and twisted.

Buffy and Spike were horrible from beginning to end.

I liked when Spike had the chip and he didn't know how to process his murderous rage and it turned into an infatuation, and I dont hate the way Buffy fell into his arms in season 6, but I hate when they started acknowledging feelings for each other. I wish Buffy was able to heal and realize how awful Spike was and cut him out completely.
