Reba McEntire is set to star in a new drama series on NBC based on Fried Green Tomatoes per The Hollywood Reporter.

The show is a modernization of the beloved novel and film that will explore the lives of descendants from the original story. McEntire will star as present-day Idgie Threadgoode, who returns to Whistle Stop after a 10 years. Threadgoogle must contend with a changed town, an estranged daughter, and a faltering cafe. And she is also dealing with a life-changing secret.

Norman Learn will produce the series, as he also executive produced the 1991 film. The author of the novel, Fannie Flagg, is also an executive producer. McEntire will also be an executive producer. Jennifer Cecil will be a writer and producer as well.
