But he's not a fucking hillbilly he's from Ohio and spends half the book talking shitabout poor Appalachians like they're idiots. This book was conservative bullshit.

I live in Columbus, and the hilarious part about this is the area where the Whole Foods is that it used to be farm ages ago LOL

Spot fucking on. One of the worst books I have ever read, absolute conservative propaganda by an author trying to launch an aw-shucks-turned-attorney political career.

I'm from rural appalachia and later moved to the rural midwest, and I really don't get why everyone around here wants to be from another different but equally shitty poor part of the country. There's a real lack of identity around these parts that leads people to cling to Appalachia and/or the deep south. There's no way you're a hillbilly, kid, there isn't a hill in your entire state.

There were rumors he was gonna run for Senate. He used to work for Peter fucking Thiel and his wife clerked for John Roberts, they're conservative bullshit artists.

Ugh none of that is surprising. Disgusting. I'm sure he's going to have a political career at some point, it makes me want to physically gag.

yeah, my first teaching job was in middletown and when i heard about this book, i was so confused about why this was hyped up as a typical "hillbilly" experience and why it was heralded as a look into the reality of living in appalachia. middletown is on the west side of ohio and it's more urban-suburban than rural. it's definitely poor, but the cover makes it look like it's a bunch of wooden shacks in the middle of nowhere lmao

Right? So strange that people were like, "yup, this seems accurate". Ohio is a shit state that no one seems to know anything about, but maps and google do exist.
