When I had the idea of making this film, we didn’t have a script or financing.

Okay so make the character from Spain. And if you need her to have some connection to South America, say that she has some family that lives there. Right?

Making her character from Spain and having some sort of connection to SA would be the smart idea, but it was probably too ~complicated~ for them to come up with some sort an idea for a connection.
