Nicole Richie and Her Underrated Comedy

Oct 07, 2020 09:53

Queen of deliberately fucking with what people think of her, Nicole Richie is an underrated comedian in her own right. She did a podcast interview with Good One to discuss her Borat-style/Curb Your Enthusiasm ways of comedy.

She introduced the world to her trickster ways on The Simple Life and made it uniquely her own. Reality TV is oversaturated with reality stars that take themselves and their lives too seriously; there is a such thing as a healthy amount of shame, and these people don't have it. Nicole was the first celebutante to exhibit enough self-awareness to mock herself in a way that people might not realize right away.

The beauty of Nicole Richie is that she is always in on the joke.

This week, host Jesse David Fox sits down with the reality bending comedic rapper Nikki Fre$h, aka Nicole Richie!

Loves it.

Nicole has two hives of bees and she harvests her own honey.
"I have two children, so I was like, 'I wanna keep [the bees] but I don't want them to be at my house 'cause I'm scared I'll get stung, so I'm gonna put them at my dad's house and not tell him.'"

Her work on her edible garden is what inspired her stage name Nikki Fre$h, and this came before the music.
"I started posting my harvests on Instagram because that's what Oprah did and I was like, 'well, I have to do that, as well.'"

She's a big believer in the power of positive energy.
"I started playing music to my vegetables because it helps them grow. It felt like they were really responding to [my '80s/'90s taste in music]."

She wanted to do a comedy album and set a meeting with Joel and Benji Madden and their music team.
"I walked in the office, I was the only girl there and I brought in a Wendell Berry book and a Rupi Kaur poem and recited The Sun and Her Flowers.'"

Quibi describes Nikki Fre$sh:
Nicole Richie spreads her message of environmental love through her new musical persona, "Nikki Fre$h," a trap music artist who makes eco-conscious choices while dropping sick beats and performing in over the top music videos. All episodes streaming now.

Trivia: Nicole has named her honey Mad Honey after her last name, Madden.

She loves Curb Your Enthusiasm and feels that that type of comedy is how she approaches Nikki Fre$h.
"I think Larry David is really the king of embracing and appreciating the perception of what people might think about him. [...] I don't necessarily garden in a Missoni gown, but I can imagine and appreciate that people think that I would and I'm on board with that perception."
